Begin Again is an ambitious and ongoing conversation series beginning in 2026 that welcomes elders, youngers, and all those who now believe that nothing less than a total reconstruction of the culture will suffice. As our beloved brother Rev. James Lawson, Jr. said before he left us, we need uprisings now that will make the uprising of the 1960s look minor by comparison.

“Begin Again” is taken from James Baldwin’s remark, which became the title of Eddie Glaude, Jr.’s 2021 book. In the wake of violent pushback against the civil rights gains of the early 1960s, Baldwin wrote: “Not everything is lost. Responsibility cannot be lost – it can only be abdicated. If one refuses abdication, one begins again.”
